Fashion Week coverage interrupted to bring you a necessary dose of...Sasha.

FIERCE.

London is boring, so far. Awaiting the Burberry Prorsum and Christopher Kane collections. The one shining beacon of hope this week has been Giles, which I will cover within the context of my "poisoned femininity" post - it is a burgeoning aesthetic I foretold & am pleased to see developing over the course of F/W 08.09. This Vogue Paris March 2008 editorial of Sasha Pivovarova not only touches upon the iconic mix of sweetness & evil relevant to my style thesis quite nicely, it absolutely justifies my belief that Sasha Pivovarova is the greatest editorial model of our generation. There are no words that can aptly describe the various juxtapositions of her unique appeal. She completely immortalizes this type of controversial alien child beauty that I find so very desirable and modern.

i'm thinking of evolving from LJ to blogspot as well...

what makes her stand out from gemma? they both boast the alien look! i have to admit i loved her sassiness in the anna sui show-- the only model who smiled!

Gemma is a great model & one of the few high fashion models that laypeople might recognize, but Sasha transcended being her "lookalike" long ago & is now actually considered nearly iconic in her own right. She's arguably one of the Top 3 most sought-after models in the business right now. I find her look edgier, more sinister and more aggressive than Gemma (she's renowned for her murderous catwalk glare); however, she also can look very sweet and vulnerable. She's extremely dynamic on film and that's what has earned her keep. She's actually not that tall compared to most models, so it's been her unique countenance and ability to convey a full range of expression that has made her so popular.

See more photos of her here:

I also prefer her personality - she's an artist!

It seems a lot of us are defecting from LJ, haha.

I concur. Sasha has a certain intensity that translates into editorial very well. Who I truly wish would land more editorials, however, is Tanya Dziahileva. She seems to have a great deal of character and can pose expressively at the drop of a hat.

I always wonder why certain designers make the choices that they do when creating an ad campaign - and I wonder to what extent these decisions are influenced or overruled by the corporate section of the label.

sorry honey, but i saw her at couture and she's FAT.
tsk tsk tsk.

1.) A 10 lb weight gain on an underweight model does not convey "fat"
2.) She looks terrific, still.
